Why we give (a-thon)

Wednesday, July 17th, 2019

Here at Open, we have a little tradition – once a year we each give £1,000 to the charity or charities of our choice. Then we gather together for an afternoon of sharing, storytelling, laughing and (a little bit of) crying.

The Give-a-thon is something we all look forward to and are so grateful to be able to take part in. It’s the only chance many of us get to give such a big gift to a cause we care about and it feels very, very special.

But for a lot of us, the best part is getting to hear why our colleagues give.

Some give in memory, others in protest. We give to our own communities and to communities on the other side of the world. We give to say thank you, to feel good, to honour our beliefs, to achieve our goals and sometimes just to make each other smile.

The Give-a-thon is a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do, why we care and, most importantly, the many reasons our client’s supporters care, too.

You can see who everyone at Open gave their gift to on the @LifeAtOpen twitter account, and see some of the action on our Instagram too.
