Today we’re celebrating our annual tradition where each member of staff will give £1,000 to the charity or charities of their choice.
That’s a grand total £53,000 going to amazing causes!
Over the past few years I’ve tuned in to the Open Giveathon on Twitter – mainly eager to see if anyone was giving to Plan UK, where I worked at the time! I’d always think, “if I had £1,000 to donate who would I donate it to?”
I’d scroll through the various different charities people had chosen to donate to – from the biggies like Unicef and MSF, to the lesser known hospices who had supported family members.
I never thought I’d be in a position to give away £1,000 to charity. And there I was with a deadline looming of which charity or charities I wanted to donate to.
Should I split it? Give it all to one charity? Who should I choose? What do I care about most right now? Where will it have the biggest impact?
So. Many. Questions.
I thought it was going to be easy, but it really was far from easy to make a decision, when there are so many incredible charities out there making the world a better place.
It’s an absolute privilege to have this kind of opportunity, and one I’m very grateful for.
Want to know who I gave my donation to? Head over to @LifeAtOpen to find out! We’ll be live tweeting from 2:30pm today.
